From our 50th Anniversary Booklet 1994
Our history is a rich history, young when compared to the beginning of the Fire Services, which received their start from Ben Franklin in 1736. We are also young when compared to our neighbors, some of whom will be celebrating their 100th and older anniversaries over the next several years.
We received our start due to the pure concern from a group of residents. This concern was fostered from the foresight for the need to provide for the protection of our growing community. During the past years this service was graciously provided by our neighbors; however, Lehigh Township was fast becoming a more populated area. These concerned pioneers spent countless hours researching and planning for the inception of the first Emergency Services in Lehigh Township . Finally their dream was realized, and the Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company 1 was established. As time moved on, so did the services we provided. The past generations of firefighters held the goals to provide for the best services to all in need close to their hearts. They strive to move in a positive direction all the time, increasing the equipment and training as needed for this positive growth.
At present, we provide a high quality service to those in need, striving to be the very best. Our personnel place a high value on the provision of this service with a high value placed on training, which prepares us to meet the unforeseen tasks which are in our future. Our standards are very high. as we feel this will enable us to maintain this positive direction: to be Pro-active vs. Re-active.
As I reflex on the 50th Anniversary, I hear the voices of the members and officers. They can not offer enough positive comments on the meaning of belonging to an organization such as ours. The rewards are too numerous to mention and too hard to describe on paper, for this is a very noble and worthwhile cause. On behalf of the members and fire officers, I offer our proudest congratulations and praise to those who have served and to those who continue to serve.
To the public, the reason for which we exist, we need to say “Thank You” for your support and assistance. We also need to say “Thank You” to the Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors and Township Employees for all their support, and to the Mutual Assistance, Emergency Service Organizations for their relationship and assistance. Lastly, we must thank our families for allowing us to partake in our cause, for they also have made a great deal of sacrifices.
In closing, I salute all those involved in our history, for no words can describe my pride and appreciation for the services provided at this time in our history, now and in the future.
To all these individuals: Thank You!!!
With deepest respect,
Roger A. Spadt
Fire Chief
